Establishment Year – 1983-84
Geography is teaching as a major course from second year of B.A. The students, who are genuinely interested in Geography and desire to do career in this subject and passed F.Y.B.A. examination, can choose B.A. Geography Programme. The Department has initiated Post Graduation Programme in Geography.
The Department of Geography has five teaching faculty members. The staff has been highly motivated, innovative and committed bunch of teachers, who have participated in many seminars, workshops and symposia arranged by various academic and professional institutions.
In order to make learning process more effective Department of Geography have different learning resources like special atlas, wall maps, three dimensional models, Smart Board, GPS, GIS Software like GRAM++
Most of the students are first generation learners. Academic counseling is very much required in our college. Teachers guide them for higher education and career options such as Geographical information system, Remote sensing, Surveying, education etc.
Professor Arjun H. Musmade is the Head of the Department and having Chairmanship of Board of Studies in Geography, Member of Academic Council of Savitribai Phule Pune University. He is also designed as Vice Principal of the College.
- Objectives :-
- To bridge the gap between higher secondary education with University curriculum.
- To incorporate recent development in the field of Geography and enhance the quality and standards of knowledge of Geography.
- To promote interdisciplinary approaches among the students to understanding the intersections of society, environment, and economy.
- To prepare students for careers in fields like geographic information systems (GIS), Opportunities in travel and tourism sector, Job opportunities though Competitive Exams.
- To advance geographic knowledge through innovative research, Collaboration, and Community engagement.
- To update the curriculum as per the NEP 2020 and inculcate the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach in the curriculum.
- Infrastructure:
- Library: We have a central Library, consists of text and reference books, which are beneficial for students and teachers. 60 books are kept in the departmental library.
- Wi-Fi Internet facilities for Staff and Students: Our department has six computers with internet facility for the staff and students. The faculty and students are regularly utilizing it. Our students are well acquainting about various geographical phenomena and recent information about the different branches of Geography with the help of this facility.
- Class rooms with ICT facility: We have one class room with ICT facility. LCD projector connected to the computer having internet facility. Faculty can explain the subject matter with the help of educational site. Faculty has prepared Power Point Presentations regarding different topics for all the classes to explain subject matter. Department has five license copies of the Global Mapper soft ware, which are open to the student for learning .
- Laboratories: The size of the Departmental Laboratory is 33 ft X 18 ft. Geographical laboratory consists of the various survey and weather instruments, GPS, atlas, wall maps, three dimensional models, Globe , toposheets, weather maps , aerial photographs , satellite imaginaries

- Innovation:
COURSE IN GIS ANS REMOTE SENSING .
21st century is an era of Information technology. There are golden opportunities for career development in the field GIS and Remote sensing. The students who have chosen Geography as a special subject has better scope in this field. Now GIS software become more popular and used in various fields such as private and public sector.
- Study Tour:
Before COVID -19 pandemic situation the department organized study tour at Bhimasankar and Dimbe Dam area in Pune District. Students learn various economic and social aspects in this tribal area. After COVID -19 pandemic situations the department organized study tour at Sinhgad fort and nearby area .Students completed Village survey of different socio-economic aspect and relation between historical places and its relation with geographical factors.
- Departmental Activities :
Poster Presentation, Educational tours and MoU with Maharashtra bhugolshasra Parishad Pune and MoU with Kelania University Srilanka for development in research are major activities of the department .
